Biotin is a vitamin of the B complex which is also known as vitamin H. This vitamin is an essential cofactor for four enzymes linked to the metabolism of carbohydrates, fats and proteins.
The deficiency of this vitamin can cause, in adults, dry and scaly skin, seborrhea and anorexia. Biotin supplementation holds promise for maintaining or improving the health of hair, skin and nails.
Because it increases insulin sensitivity and the use of glucose by the liver, it has also been used in diabetes, where it works in conjunction with other factors.
In general, it can be advised as an adjunct:
- Maintaining or improving the health of the skin, hair and nails, including preventing hair loss
- In the reduction of symptoms associated with seborrheic dermatitis and other dermatitis
- In the reduction of glycemic values with improvement of the states of peripheral neuropathy (tingling and numbness of the limbs), in diabetics and non-diabetics
As a dietary supplement for adults, take 1 vegetarian capsule a day, preferably with a meal, or according to a doctor's or your health care technician's prescription. Do not exceed the recommended daily intake.
