Vitamin D3, or cholecalciferol, is the most bioavailable form of vitamin D. It is usually extracted from fish, with cod and sardine oils; butter and egg yolk are good sources of vitamin D. Vegetables are low in vitamin D, with green leafy vegetables being the richest.
Vitamin D contributes to the maintenance of normal bones, to the normal absorption / utilization of calcium and phosphorus, to the maintenance of normal muscle function, to the maintenance of normal teeth, to the normal functioning of the immune system and to protecting cells against unwanted oxidation.
